Microsoft SQL Server on AWS
A structured environment for deploying SQL Server databases in the AWS Cloud using Amazon RDS with secure networking and CloudFormation-based provisioning.
Overview
The Microsoft SQL Server on AWS solution provides a structured environment for deploying SQL Server databases in the AWS Cloud. The solution uses AWS CloudFormation to provision Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server with secure networking, database subnet groups, and supporting security resources for reliable and repeatable deployments.
The deployment creates the essential infrastructure needed to host SQL Server workloads while reducing manual configuration and deployment time. Database resources are isolated within a secure network architecture, helping organizations build managed database environments that can be configured for performance, availability, backup, and operational requirements for business-critical applications.
Syed Solutions can assist with deployment, database configuration, connectivity testing, security review, performance tuning, documentation, and integration with Windows applications and other AWS services. The selected deployment may use the Amazon RDS License Included model or Bring Your Own Media (BYOM). Customers are responsible for validating their licensing rights and complying with applicable Microsoft and AWS licensing terms.
What You Will Receive
Key Features
- Amazon RDS for SQL Server — managed relational database service with automated maintenance capabilities, configurable automated backups, and optional Multi-AZ failover
- Dedicated database subnet group deployment — DB subnet groups configured with subnets in at least two Availability Zones, with the DB instance configured as not publicly accessible when the selected design requires private access
- Secure VPC network integration — database accessible only from authorized subnets and security groups
- Security groups for controlled database access — port-level access control restricting connections to approved sources
- Configurable database instance sizing — right-sized compute and memory allocation for your workload requirements
- Automated backups and point-in-time recovery — configurable automated backups with adjustable retention period and point-in-time recovery support
- Optional Multi-AZ deployment — available for supported SQL Server editions and versions for increased availability and automatic failover when configured
- CloudFormation-based repeatable provisioning — consistent deployment across development, staging, and production environments
- Foundation for business application databases — supports .NET applications, reporting services, and enterprise workloads
- Database parameter and security group configuration — customized database settings for performance and compliance requirements
- Simplified AWS database deployment process — reduced manual steps and configuration errors through infrastructure as code
Deployment Overview
We assess your database workload requirements — storage needs, performance expectations, availability requirements, and SQL Server edition and licensing approach.
We deploy the RDS instance, subnet groups, security groups, parameter groups, and monitoring configuration using the CloudFormation template.
We configure database parameters, verify connectivity from application subnets, test backup and restore procedures, and validate performance baselines.
We deliver deployment documentation including connection details, backup schedules, monitoring dashboards, and operational procedures for your team.
Customer Responsibilities & Additional Charges
AWS services, third-party licenses, data transfer, storage, support plans, monitoring, backup, security tools, and other enabled resources may generate additional charges. Final architecture, service availability, features, and pricing depend on the selected AWS Region, configuration, software version, licensing terms, and customer requirements.
