Secure Bastion Host

The Secure Bastion Host for AWS is a security-hardened Amazon Linux 2023 solution being prepared for availability through AWS Marketplace. It provides a controlled administrative entry point for accessing private AWS workloads within a customer-configured VPC environment.

The solution includes AWS Systems Manager Session Manager, hardened SSH settings, SELinux enforcement, firewalld, audit logging, persistent system logs, IMDSv2 enforcement, and support for configuring automated security updates. Customers can use AWS Systems Manager Session Manager for administrative access without opening inbound SSH ports when the required IAM permissions, instance profile, agent connectivity, and network access are in place. Customers can optionally configure CloudWatch Logs for operating-system or Session Manager logging, AWS CloudTrail for AWS API activity, and Amazon Inspector for supported EC2 vulnerability findings.
